2024 - 2025 Class 7 Language Arts
The seventh grade student is "interested in individualizing what they say, finding their own voice and style and also being able to hide behind the mask of language so as not to reveal their own inner feelings." In Class 7 language arts we encourage the students to reveal their own personal interests and their sense of personality.
The key grammar concepts that will be covered are:
types of sentences and word positioning
parts of speech
sentence analysis
phrases
clauses
verbs
nouns
adjectives
adverbs
pronouns
antecedents
prepositions
conjunctions
punctuation
fragmented sentences & improper shifts
The themes that we will work with to draw out our inspiration are:
Stories from the Renaissance and the age of discovery
Subject matter that the class/teacher decides on based on their own interests/The

Text selections by the teacher e.g. from the works of Lewis Carol/Arthur Conan
Doyle/O’Henry/’The King’s Fifth’; by Scott O’Dell
Students in Class 7 language arts will practice the following reading and writing skills:
essay writing
development of personal style and word usage
writing non-fiction, such as for different audiences and purposes
weekly individual spelling targets
formal writing techniques
Lotus & Ivy language arts classes will consist of up to an hour’s homework exercise each week. The goal is to provide opportunities for the children to experience what they are learning regularly. There will be a weekly assignment given the week before - to prepare for the Tuesday lesson. It is essential that the students arrive prepared for the lesson, having done the preparation work before.
