Class 3 Skills Practice
Our Class 3 Math Skills and Language Arts Skills Lessons are live, interactive, and each meet twice per week for 50 minutes with the teacher. During these lessons, the teacher will provide instruction and practice following a Waldorf-inspired math and language arts curriculum. Skills practiced are introduced in the Main Lesson Blocks before being practiced in Skills.
Practicing and gaining mastery in Language Arts and Math Skills is an essential component of third grade. Many skills such as spelling sight words (words that are difficult to spell phonetically), math times tables, and addition and subtraction facts take daily practice for mastery. You and your child will learn a variety of strategies for each concept to continue the practice at home.

Expectations
Class 3 students will be assigned required math skills and language arts skills homework to work on outside of class time every week. Students can expect to spend an average of 1 hour each week on individual homework outside of class time for each skills class.
Students do not need to be enrolled in Lotus & Ivy Main Lesson Class to enroll in Lotus & Ivy Math & Language Arts Skills Practice. However, most concepts are introduced in the main lesson and practiced in the skills class. If registering a la carte for Math & Language Arts Skills, we recommend you follow the same Main Lesson block rotation at home.
Please Note: The academic goals of the Waldorf third grade curriculum include independent reading of early chapter books and paragraph writing by the end of the year. Math goals include the mastery of multiplication tables and vertical addition and subtraction. Such foundational skills will be needed as the children move out of their early childhood years.
The Skills Classes are offered to support your family with the daily practice needed to gain these academic skills. Main Lesson and Skills Classes together offer an opportunity for working towards mastery in these areas. Additional at-home work and practice may still be necessary for your child to gain these skills.
